Brazil is no longer just a place where pirated goods, produced abroad, arrive through contraband and are distributed. It has become a center of production of counterfeit products. All kinds of companies (pharmaceutical, toy, medicine, food, personal hygiene, clothing, pesticides, equipment, printing supplies, etc.) are, more and more, forced to combat the ongoing and rising counterfeiting of their products. Criminal gangs installed in Brazil pirate all sorts of products. Companies that own brands or patents can have their integrity and credibility severely damaged by having their products pirated, as they lose a considerable share of the market to pirated products, not to mention that these pirated products can be hazardous to consumer’s health, as is the case with pharmaceutical and personal hygiene products.
